WHY I AM RUNNING

Farmington Public Schools can be an A+ District once again.

That is why I am proud to be running for school board member. I promise to bring a fresh and open perspective to the Board, representing the wishes of the taxpayers, the educational needs of our children, and the classroom tools that make our teachers successful.

I have a long and personal interest in the district having lived in Farmington Hills for more than 27 years.  My wife Susan and I have raised three children, all of whom graduated from Farmington Public Schools. The years that my children spent in FPS – from kindergarten through high school – has given me the opportunity to interact with the district for more than 20 years in many ways.

Whether I was coaching sports, helping out at a school party, attending a school program, or sitting at a Board meeting, I actively participated in my children’s education, and kept abreast of the issues the district was facing.

I have always been committed to public school education and believe that every child deserves the best education possible.  But, I have watched over the past few years as our district, that at one time provided a stellar education, has slowly slipped to the middle of the pack or worse.  That is evidenced by the latest release of school rankings from around the State.  See rankings here. 

I recognize that this is not something that is easily resolved. Just as the decline did not happen overnight, bringing our district back to leading the public school rankings will take time.  I want to be a part of the solution that recrafts FPS as a premiere district in the 21st century.
